Hourglass Scotland

Claimed

Hourglass Scotland is the only charity in Scotland, part of a broader UK-wide charity, dedicated to calling time on the harm, abuse and exploitation of older people. We support older people experiencing (or at risk of) harm, abuse or exploitation, and work towards safer ageing and a fairer society for all older people.

Previously known as Action on Elder Abuse Scotland, we rebranded in 2020 to help us move away from any negative connotations associated with the term ‘elder abuse’. We know that many people do not see their experiences as ‘abuse’, or are afraid or embarrassed to speak up about being a ‘victim’ of a crime associated with such stigma. Moving to a more general name, therefore allows us to engage with more people, and also work towards a preventative approach as well as supporting older people who have experienced abuse.

Our vision is simple - we are dedicated to calling time on the harm and abuse of older people.
