Edinburgh & Lothian Council On Alcohol (ELCA)

Edinburgh & Lothian Council on Alcohol (ELCA) offers help to anyone worried about their own or someone else’s drinking.

ELCA offers free advice, information and support focusing around alcohol.

There are drop-in sessions available weekly which you can attend without an appointment. This service provides advice and information and to help clients ascertain what options are open to them. These may include reducing/moderating alcohol consumption, or choosing to stop drinking altogether.

One to one counselling is available in both English and Polish (only available in Edinburgh). Counselling sessions offer a supportive and confidential space where you can talk things over in confidence and where you will be heard and accepted in a non-judgemental way. Sessions can help you to explore your drinking and the problems it may be causing in your life.

Telephone support is also available for people who are concerned about their own alcohol use. If you feel it would help to talk through your concerns using this service, ELCA can offer you alcohol focused telephone call lasting up to 30 minutes, 1 session a week for up to 4 weeks. During the session, you can get information and advice, consider your options and receive some support in making changes to your drinking. All you need is to have access to a phone at an arranged time and a place where you will have privacy and no distractions.

Women’s Alcohol Recovery Group offers a supportive environment and an opportunity to meet other women.
