South East Glasgow Law and Money Advice Service

South East Glasgow Law and Money Advice Service is a community based voluntary organisation. We are a free advice and representation service. If you live in the South East of Glasgow one of our 7 advice centres will be close to you.

The Law Centre is run by a Board drawn from local people in the Community. Members decide which problems in the area can be dealt with using legal means. The Law Centre then uses its resources to address these problems in a number of ways.

Primarily it helps individuals by taking on individual cases and seeking redress through the legal system. This can mean simply negotiating with the party who is causing problems to the individual. If this is not successful then further action is taken through the courts or tribunals.

Its solicitors and advisers are employed by groups of local people and provide advice and representation on the following:
* Debt problems
* Rent arrears - including representation at court
* Mortgage arrears - including defending ejection actions
* Employment rights
* Welfare benefits
* Housing cases
* Women's rights - including Criminal Injuries Compensation for domestic abuse
* Disability rights
* Anti-discrimination cases

Individual case work however is only part of the Law Centre’s remit and its staff also take on cases from local community groups.
