A community fridge is free for all to use. The aim is to reduce food waste and poverty by redistributing to the community. Anyone can take what they need from fridge and anyone can put new food in. Our volunteers check the fridge regularly to be sure produce is edible and that the fridge is clean.
At Share Alike we have partnerships with our local Lidl and Aldi to pick up and use their surplus food. Particularly fruit vegetables and bread. This allows us to be sure there is always something in the fridge for anyone who needs.
We also distribute food bags to those most in need at our opening times. However if you are an agency with someone in need outwith these times or are working with someone who requires extra support, assistance or produce please make an official referral to be sure we have the correct information to help them as much as we can.
