Learning Disability, Independent Living, Housing Support

Many people who have a learning disability live in their own home. Sometimes it can be helpful to have some support at home with things like cooking, gardening, decorating or doing household chores.
ENABLE Scotland can provide flexible support services. This means that you can have someone with you at home when you need them. We would meet with you to discuss what support we would give you, and it would be agreed with you.

Most of the people we support enjoy the independence and privacy the gain from living in their own home but also enjoy have support staff available at certain times.

Having an individual budget and organising your own support means that you will also probably have staff who work for you. There are different options available for dealing with he process of choosing staff and managing their time.

Some families choose to organise this on their own. Others choose to get some guidance from ENABLE Scotland on how to choose the right support staff and make sure the routine fits in around your lifestyle.

Having the right support staff in your life is essential. They need to people you feel comfortable with and can trust. ENABLE Scotland can help to set up meetings with potential support staff. We can also help you to think about the questions you may want to ask them to make sure they are the right people to support you and your family.
