Huntly Health Walks

by Aberdeenshire Health Walks Claimed

Covid19 update - there may be changes to this walk, please contact before joining.

Huntly Health Walks offer a weekly low - level walk around the town of Huntly, meeting at the community kitchen at the Linden Centre on a Friday. Walks last no longer than an hour and are followed by refreshments either back at our start point or a local café. Originally started as part of a healthy eating & weight management project through the NHS, the group has been running successfully for around 8 years and has recently now signed up to the Scottish Health Walk Network, receiving support from Paths for All and the Aberdeenshire Health Walks project. At Huntly we offer two different levels of walk - a shorter, slower paced walk and a faster paced, longer walk. Amongst our favourite routes is down the tree-lined avenue, past the picturesque Huntly Castle, returning back up to the town past the school playing fields and the school building. Our walks are suitable for older adults and those who have difficulty walking. We adapt as best we can to your abilities, as we have a range of them already within our group. Every first Friday of the month, our walk is followed by a cooking session back at the community kitchen in the Linden Centre, for which we ask for a small contribution towards ingredients. We enjoy the lunch we have cooked together as a group and this social time is very valuable to us. Furthermore, throughout the year, we try and vary our walks by either taking trips out to different locations (such as Leith Hall and Dunbennan Woods) or making the most of our walks locally– such as taking a picnic down by the Deveron, or a ‘posh’ lunch out in the town.
