by Friends of Possilpark Greenspace (FOPG) Claimed
Friends of Possilpark Greenspace (FOPG) was established in 2008 by a group of local residents and people working in the local area, who are concerend to raise the standard of the local environment. The group aims to tackle the blight that is vacant and derelict sites, neglected and underused areas around the Possilpark, Hamiltonhill and Ruchill area. This is achieved through environmental and other improvements and by organising various activities, volunteering opportunities so that local people can make a real difference for their own area and community celebration events to bring these sites back into positive use.
We focus on 2 main areas of work:
Temporary environmental, landscaping and other improvements on areas of open space, which may be developed in the future (Stalled Spaces).
Permanent environmental, conservation and landscaping work on existing areas of greenspace within our community. The main focus of this area of work, has been the securing of Hamiltonhill Claypits as a Local Nature Reserve (13th May 2016), which gives it legal protection as a site for both nature conservation, leisure and recreation for all within the area. There is now another local charity that has been formed since then whom we work in partnership, Hamiltonhill Claypits Local Nature Reserve Management Group, meaning that there is full community representation as an independant charity that will be able to protect the local communities' interests for years to come.
