Lochaber & Lorn Ramblers group
by Ramblers Scotland - Lochaber & Lorn Ramblers Claimed ( Exercise & Get Fit, Outdoor Pursuits, Support Network )
The Lochaber and Lorn Ramblers area is probably the best walking area in the whole of the British Isles. It includes Ben Nevis, the highest peak in the UK, the spectacular Glen Coe and the islands of Skye, Mull, Rum and Eigg.
We extend a warm welcome to all new walkers, visitors and guests. Pllease have a look at our list of walks, choose a walk, get in touch with the relevant walk leader and come along!
Our day-trips include scrambles such as the Aonach Eagach ridge in Glencoe and hill-walks to Munros in our local ranges such as Glen Nevis, the Mamores, Glen Shiel or in more distant areas such as Kintail or Knoydart. The Corbetts, over the Corran Ferry, in Ardgour and Ardnamurchan are also favourite days out.
Not all our outings demand super fitness, we also enjoy low-level walks in the area. Gentler walks can be found along the West Highland Way, Great Glen Way, Caledonian canal etc. While the islands of Kerrera and Lismore in Loch Linnhe are within easy reach by ferry. Another spectacular low-level walk is along the fjord-like Loch Hourn. Interesting days out combine a cruise along Loch Shiel or Loch Nevis with a walk. Another is a ramble up Glen Stockdale, in Appin, with a chance to visit some of the deepest caves in Scotland.
Special-interest walks are organised and include hunting for rare orchids or butterflies, watching eagles and bats and deer rutting and, in the autumn, collecting edible fungi. Other walks include archaeological sites such as standing stones, hill forts, clan fortresses, such as Castle Tioram in Moidart, and 19th Century Clearance villages.
