Male Carers Support Group
by Renfrewshire Carers Centre Claimed
Approximately 40% of all carers are male.
Being a carer can be very daunting as for some it can be a role reversal, an unfamiliar task, suddenly having to give up work, and a major lifestyle change. Many people still see caring as a more female orientation, so for many males in this role they feel isolated, can be less likely to seek support, which in turn can affect their ability to carry out their role.
This group allows members the ability to link with other male carers and discuss issues, services, create new friendships and potentially interests. After an initial meeting it was agreed that the sessions would be split between social activities and bringing in professionals, while always focusing on the value of peer support.
