Mums Walk Midlothian
Mums Walk is a peer support walking group for mums (with babies/children of any age) in Midlothian who are experiencing mental health difficulties.
Mums walk has been set up by a group of mums who all have personal experience of mental health difficulties in the postnatal period and beyond.
Being outdoors and walking can have a positive effect on our mental health and wellbeing. This groups gives mums the opportunity to meet with other mums can reduce the isolation which often accompanies mental health difficulties. It is a safe place to talk and be listened to with understanding and no judgement. Talking with other mums who are experiencing something similar can help you to know that you are not alone in how you are feeling.
Date: Every Monday (during term time)
Time: 9.30 am – 11.30 am
Location: The group meets at the Lasswade Centre in Bonnyrigg.
At the end of each walk we welcome you to stay for tea/coffee in the café at the Lasswade Centre.
Walks are gentle and led by mums who are ‘Paths for All’ trained health walk leaders.
There is no need to book a place in advance, just turn up. It can be difficult to go along to a group for the first time, so one of their volunteers can meet up with you beforehand.
Children and babies come along on our walks. Mums are responsible for their children during the group.
Mums walk is not led by mental health professionals but by a group of volunteer mums who have lived experience of mental health difficulties. Mums walk does not take the place of seeking professional help, for example from a GP, health visitor or local mental health team. They are not qualified to provide counselling, medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. They can provide information about mental health resources in Midlothian.
The group is not an emergency resource but we can provide information about agencies which can be contacted in a crisis for help and support.
