Paisley Karate Club
Paisley Karate Club, Scotland was founded in 1987 by Sensei Willie Waters, 6th Dan Shito-ryu karate. We are open to everyone and are a very friendly club. Many of our members are families who train together. For the juniors (age 4 to 15) you can drop off your child or if you prefer you can stay and watch. Most members were complete beginners when they started, but we also have some who have experience with other styles of karate, other martial arts or have returned as adults after a break.
We teach Shito-ryu karate, one of the four main, original styles of karate from Japan. Devised by Kenwa Mabuni in Osaka in the 1930s it is a combined hard and soft style with emphasis on speed and precision. You will learn about kata, kumite, basics and bunkai. There are also courses with guest instructors, including visits from Sensei Graham McCann, 6th Dan. You will gain self defence skills and increased self confidence whilst getting fitter and more agile.
We presently have ten Black belts who assist in coaching members of all abilities. They have attended numerous coaching courses and are PVG checked. The club is a member of KKD Shukokai Scotland and the Miyake Shukokai International association of karate clubs. KKD Shukokai implements the Scottish Karate Governing Body Child Protection Policy.
Anyone interested in joining is welcome to attend a first class free of charge. We recommend loose training type clothing be worn. Joggies and a t-shirt are ideal. We train in bare feet, but light trainers can be used.
If you do not leave our dojo smiling we are not doing it right!
