by Momentum Skills

Momentum Pathways is a programme which works towards rehabilitating adults with an Acquired Brain Injury or a Mental Health diagnosis towards a vocational goal, working in a six month time frame.

We do this by working with the client in group sessions to cover useful skills for the workplace. Clients will be taken through sessions on Cognitive Rehabilitation, Employability skills and Work Related Social Skills. The ABI programme consists of sessions specific to learning how to deal with an ABI in the workplace and how to manage adjustment and acceptance of the injury. Mental health sessions cover Managing Anxiety and Depression using ACT therapy. Both groups maintain a focus on client centred practice by setting individual weekly goals each week and by attending an initial meeting to tailor goals which will be worked on throughout each module. There are two modules, each lasting 12 weeks. The first module is focused on the client narrowing down what area they wish to work in and whether this is a realistic area. The second module will see clients begin to work with a vocational tutor in order to obtain a placement or vocational outcome. Clients can be supported in their vocational outcome for up to two years by our service.

Sessions take place from 10am to 3pm with one hour for lunch at 12am, the ABI group attend the centre on Monday to Wednesday and the mental health group attend Wednesday to Friday. We operate on a rolling intake system and so clients can be referred and join the group at any stage. We accept referrals from Aberdeen city and shire for brain injury and Aberdeen city for Mental Health. Clients can self refer but we will need to have a professional diagnosis before we can obtain funding.
