Singing for Breathing
by The Cheyne Gang Claimed
6/5/2020 Covid 19 update.
Unfortunately due to Coronavirus our 8 singing for breathing groups have been postponed indefinitely. We have moved our service online to our website where you can find breathing and relaxation exercises plus songs to learn and sing along to videoed and recorded by our specially trained singing group leaders. Some of our staff and members have are also recording themselves singing and have chosen some of their favourite songs which you can listen to via a you tube link. You ca follow us on Facebook and Twitter. The natural breathing techniques we teach can also help if you are recovering from Covid 19 which leads to respiratory symptoms like breathlessness and cough - you should of course contact NHS24 on 111 if you have concerns about your breathing or 999 if it is an emergency situation. Stay in, stay safe and protect our NHS.
We set up and run singing groups for people with long term lung conditions such as COPD, Bronchiectasis, severe Asthma and Pulmonary Fibrosis. These diseases cause breathlessness which can be very debilitating and lead to anxiety, low mood and social isolation. Learning natural breathing techniques and singing in a community group has positive physical, mental and social health benefits. We currently have 4 groups in Edinburgh, 1 in Innerleithen and 1 in Glasgow. Sessions are run every 2 weeks and last 2 hours with a break for coffee, cake and chat. More information about our groups and the benefits can be found on our website.
