Singing for Breathing
by The Cheyne Gang Claimed
13/11/2021 Covid 19 update.
Our singing for breathing groups are now able to meet again face to face following the Scottish Government Covid 19 guidelines. We will continue to use our website to provide videos of the breathing exercises and songs we teach so people can enjoy these at home. We will also start to 'livestream' some of our face to face sessions for everyone to join in with. You can follow us on Facebook and Twitter. Some of the breathing techniques we teach can also help if you are recovering from Covid 19 which leads to respiratory symptoms like breathlessness and cough - you should of course contact your GP or phone 111 if you have concerns about your breathing or 999 if it is an emergency situation.
We set up and run community singing groups for people with long term lung conditions such as COPD, Bronchiectasis, severe Asthma and Pulmonary Fibrosis. These diseases cause breathlessness which can be very debilitating and lead to anxiety, low mood and social isolation. Learning breath control and singing in a community group has positive physical, mental and social health benefits. We currently have 4 groups in Edinburgh, 1 in Innerleithen and 1 in Glasgow. Sessions are run every 2 weeks and last 1 hour at the moment due to Covid 19 restrictions. More information about our groups and the benefits can be found on our website, Facebook page or on Twitter.
