Social prescribing, outreach and other support for older vegetarians and vegans
by Vegetarian for Life (V for Life) Claimed
Vegetarian for Life (V for Life) is a non-profit organisation working on behalf of older vegans and vegetarians.
We run a national monthly vegan lunch club in partnership with Age UK on the 4th Tuesday of every month. It's open to vegans, vegetarians, and meat reducers aged 65 and over, living anywhere in the UK. This is currently run online via Zoom. A great social activity for people who may still be shielding, or who would simply like to meet others and relieve feelings of isolation. A recipe is provided each week and we meet virtually to chat and enjoy the recipe.
We also run regular 6-week cookery courses for older adults, often in partnership with Age UK's across the UK. We are currently running these virtually via Zoom but will run in person again once we are able to. We are open to creating bespoke classes in response to demand. Contact us to arrange.
Our Pen- and phone-pals scheme is a great way to help reduce isolation. Many close friendships have been forged through the scheme.
We have numerous publications on our website, of which paper copies are available on request. These include Cooking for One, Take V, Festive Delights, and Veggie Meals to your Door, which can be accessed on our website. They're packed with nutrition information, recipes, menu plans and more. Our Veggie Meals to your Door guide in particular may be useful to anyone unable to shop and cook for themselves. It lists companies across the UK that provide a meal delivery service with vegan and vegetarian options.
We also have a grants scheme available to help older vegans and vegetarians with independent living. We've funded items such as stair lifts, mobility scooters, laptops, and veggie cookery classes in Wales. More info can be found on our website.
