Galashiels Amateur Operatic Society

Gala Opera was established back in 1906 and it continues to bring light hearted entertainment to the community through a variety of musical productions.

In the early years the Society relied on the music of Gilbert and Sullivan, however as the influence of Hollywood crossed the Atlantic livelier productions were staged, continuing through to the modern shows we see today.

As with most Societies we rely a great deal on our audiences for their support along with our many patrons and sponsors.

Our shows take a great deal of planning and organising and this could not be achieved without the hard work and dedication of a vast number of volunteers directly and indirectly involved with the Society.

Gala Opera produces an annual show in the first full week of March. There is six evening performances and in recent years we have opened up our Sunday afternoon dress rehearsal as a Preview show to help accommodate the demand for tickets.

Gala Opera has been known to pull out all the stops for special occasions, including a charity concert to celebrate its 110th birthday in 2017.
