Befrienders Skye and Lochalsh is a volunteer befriending service run by SLCVO and funded by the Highland Hospice and NHS Highland.

Volunteer Befrienders provide company and friendship tailored to an individual needs. The amount of time and activities undertaken will vary as each person is different however, volunteers may:

  • visit a person at home
  • take short car trips/outings
  • make regular telephone calls
  • help with a hobby

Everyone can experience loneliness or social isolation at times. Our befriending service helps people reconnect by offering companionship, building friendships, and opening up opportunities to engage more with their community.

Once a referral is made, our Befriending Coordinator will get in touch with the person referred to learn more about their needs and interests. If the service is a good fit, we’ll aim to match them with a volunteer who shares similar interests. If you’d like to discuss making a referral, please contact our Befriending Coordinator.
