Breathing Space is a free, confidential, phone and webchat service for anyone in Scotland over the age of 16 experiencing low mood, depression or anxiety. We are here in times of difficulty to provide a safe and supportive space by listening, offering advice and providing information.
Opening hours:
Weekdays: Monday-Thursday 6pm to 2am
Weekend: Friday 6pm-Monday 6am
Our advisors come from a range of mental health, counselling and social work backgrounds. There is an equal ratio of male to female advisors, who may be part-time or full-time. Breathing Space is not a volunteer service. The service is managed by NHS 24 and delivered from NHS 24 contact centres in Hillington and South Queensferry.

Virtual
Contact Scotland enables BSL users to access all of Scotland’s public and voluntary sectors. The BSL interpretation service is available during the Breathing Space phoneline opening hours of:
Monday to Friday: 6pm to midnight
Saturday and Sunday: 8am to midnight
Breathing Space is free to phone from a landline and any mobile phone network.
Breathing Space uses the interpretation service, Language Line, to support callers who cannot, or prefer not to, speak English. Tell the advisor that you need an interpreter. Tell the advisor the name of your preferred language. Once you’re connected to an interpreter you’ll have a three way conversation with Breathing Space.
If you use a textphone you can contact us on 18001 0800 22 44 88. You can also contact Breathing Space using the Relay UK app.
