Children and Young People are affected by many issues including alcohol and drug addictions, both their own and their parents; all types of abuse including self-harm; bullying – including from social media; suicide risk; care responsibilities of siblings and/or parents; trauma; family breakdown or transition; foster/kinship or residential care breakdowns that can lead to multiple placements often with deteriorating self-esteem; educational barriers; bereavement; and many have involvement with the Criminal Justice System. A number of specialist counsellors have been trained to work with children and young people who need very specific response methods to permit them to relate their emotional and mental health difficulties in age-specific ways and enable them to develop coping strategies and support them through changing and challenging situations.
