Alcohol Brief Interventions

This is a Claimed service
Delivered by: Murray’s Initiative (formerly Glasgow Council On Alcohol - GCA)
This is a Claimed organisation This organisation is a Registered Charity
Last updated: 27/04/2026

Our community engagement team has been delivering Alcohol Brief Interventions (ABIs) in Glasgow and the surrounding areas for over 10 years.  The team provide information and advice on your own or someone else's alcohol use and provides an opportunity for you to assess your current alcohol use, how that can be impacting your health and discuss ways to reduce the harm caused. The approach is non-confrontational, non-judgmental and confidential.

ABIs are evidence-based and proven to be effective in reducing alcohol consumption. For every eight people who receive an ABI, one person reduces their alcohol consumption to safer levels.

The team has delivered screenings and ABIs in various settings, including pharmacies, health centres, job centres, colleges, supermarkets, and community events. If you have an upcoming event or work somewhere where you think it would be appropriate for the community engagement team to attend, please get in touch.
