Autism Peer Support Social Groups

by 'Triple As' Claimed ( Autism, Peer Support )

We run social groups for isolated autistic people throughout the week. These are set up for people who would otherwise struggle to access services because they do not have an associated learning difficulty - we are not appropriate for people who need a high degree of care or would need someone to accompany them to every meeting.
We are entirely autism led, which means here that everyone in the room, including all staff and volunteers is autistic - this is important because it means that while we don't automatically understand a new member's autism, we do understand the sort of problems it causes, and more importantly, no one in the room feels that autistic behaviours are strange.

One of the major outcomes from our groups is autists who are better able to tolerate the 'real world' - this is something we are capable of, but are often shielded from. As such, we do not provide schedules for what will occur in a group, and group behaviours are allowed to be as natural as possible - this can sometimes include arguments, because arguments do occur in the real world!

Because of this, it is very important to let us know about any sensory issues or anxieties that you have, so that we are aware of any particular sensitivities that need to be considered.

Most of the groups are for ages 16+, with the majority of the membership being around 20. Many of our groups are full, so please don't be disappointed if a group you are interested in had no spaces.

Most of the groups are capped at 6 members, so there's quite limited places in most groups. Groups are decided on by the members, and so they are subject to change. There's a lot of different groups, so check our website and facebook page for details.
