Children and Young People's Commissioner Scotland (CYPCS)

Last updated: 06/01/2026

The Children and Young People’s Commissioner Scotland (CYPCS) works to promote and protect the rights of children and young people in Scotland. That includes:

  • everyone in Scotland under 18
  • everyone in Scotland under 21 who is care experienced

The CYPCS works to make sure the laws that affect your lives are fair. The CYPCS challenges people in power to keep human rights promises they’ve made to you that make sure you have all you need to grow up in an environment of happiness, love and understanding.

The CYPCS helps you understand how valuable and important your rights are so you can demand change when your rights – or the rights of others – are not being respected.

The CYPCS makes sure adults in Scotland know more about your rights so that they see where they need to make changes.

Children and young people can contact the CYPCS via our website contact form or by Freephone to ask us questions about human rights, ways to get involved, provide suggestions as well as other enquiries.
