Applying for benefits and going through assessments can be stressful and confusing for people who are struggling with their mental health. Many people find it hard to explain the impact their condition has on them, and this can mean they are sometimes assessed unfairly.

How we help

We’ll meet with you before your assessment to talk through your condition and agree on what’s most important to highlight in your claim. Together, we’ll decide what you’d like included. We can then go with you to the assessment, making sure you’re listened to and given the chance to speak up.

If you get in touch with us at a later stage, we can still help. For example, we can support you to draft a mandatory reconsideration or redetermination if you want the decision to be looked at again. We can also go with you to advice appointments or Jobcentre meetings, to make sure your voice is heard.
