Hwupenyu Health and Wellbeing Project

Last updated: 15/12/2025

We are a Glasgow based charity who provide support for Black ethnic communities in Scotland living with chronic health conditions.

Hwupenyu means “life”. This is what we promote at Hwupenyu. We want to empower you through giving you the tools and support network so that you can live the best possible life.

We cater to Black ethnic communities living in Scotland, and aim to address health inequalities that Black ethnic groups face. We provide practical and emotional culturally attentive support through a varied range of projects. We offer both peer-led support through groups, and individual one-on-one guidance.

Community is at the heart of everything that we do. Being able to have a support network of people who are experiencing similar things to you can reduce the isolation you may feel. It can help to know that you do not have to face these challenges alone – that there is a community of friendly people here who understand.
