Scottish Welfare Fund

Last reviewed: 16/02/2024

The Scottish Welfare Fund is a discretionary scheme we deliver that provides two types of grants:

Community Care Grants may be issued to people who need support to live independently in the community and will mostly provide items such as furniture or household appliances.

Crisis Grants may be provided for basic short-term living expenses in a disaster such as fire or flood or emergencies like losing money or travelling to visit a sick child in hospital.

Grants are available to anyone aged 16 or over and applicants should normally have a low income, however, applicants do not have to be in receipt of a benefit to receive a grant. Anyone with a low income, or who does not have access to their money, can apply.

If you are in crisis you can apply for a grant by calling the Scottish Welfare Fund team. To apply for a Community Care Grant, please complete and return an application form (available on website).
