The SHINE Project

Last updated: 12/01/2026

Crossroads Youth and Community Association (CYCA) delivers youth and community work alongside the people of Gorbals and Govanhill areas of Glasgow.

The SHINE Project aims to alleviate the effects of child poverty and redress the effects of young peoples’ exposure to adverse childhood experiences (ACEs).

Objectives

  • Directly address food insecurity and leisure poverty
  • Support and promote social, emotional and physical wellbeing
  • Build capacities and attainment linked to resilience and the capacity to act independently and make choices

Project provides an integrated centre-based and outdoors focused youth work service; a safe caring supportive community centre in the Gorbals alongside access to green wild natural environments across Scotland where young people can learn, be healthy and flourish.

Project also delivers activities that encourage young people to take a positive perspective of their local area and Glasgow as a whole; building a positive connection to their neighbourhood and city.
