The Open Museum

The Open Museum supports Glasgow-based groups and organisations who may find it difficult to visit our museums. We do this through our popular loan kit service; by delivering outreach sessions; and by hosting travelling displays in community venues.

Handling kits

Would you like to borrow museum objects to run a handling session in your local community? We offer over 80 themed handling and reminiscence kits containing museum objects and photographs. These can be borrowed free of charge by community groups based in Glasgow. 

Outreach

Is your group unable to attend a museum venue? We can visit your group and bring along a handling kit. Through these sessions your group members will share memories, learn new facts and get the chance to handle real museum artefacts. 

Travelling displays

The Open Museum’s travelling displays tour to the heart of communities all over the city, including libraries and local shopping centres.
