The Highland Archive Centre is responsible for collecting, preserving, and making accessible, archives relating to the history of the Highlands.

In addition to bespoke searchroom and repository facilities, the centre incorporates a dedicated Family History Room, and a specialist Conservation Studio. The centre also accommodates the Council’s Records Management Service.

The archive collections at the Highland Archive Centre date from the 14th century to the present day covering the counties of Inverness, Nairn, Ross and Cromarty and Sutherland.

Highland Archive Centre staff are always available to assist you with your research – please feel free to drop-in or contact us to book an appointment. For more information on booking and what to expect when you visit, see our website for guidance on planning your visit.
