Historic Adoption Peer Support in Scotland

This is a Claimed service
Delivered by: Health In Mind This is a Claimed organisation
Last updated: 07/01/2026

For adult adoptees, mothers, fathers and other family members affected by historic adoption practices in Scotland between the 1950s and 1980s, peer support helps with understanding the impact this experience has had on themselves and on others.

What type of support works for each individual is completely personal, and while peer support cannot be a magic fix or undo the harm caused by historic adoption practices, it can help to reduce feelings of isolation and contribute towards a supportive network.

We are keen to develop support group in areas of Scotland where there is sufficient interest. Currently we have groups in Glasgow, Edinburgh and online.

Health in Mind - Building hope, resilience and understanding of mental health and wellbeing in Scotland, since 1982.
